Stage 1: Understanding That Your Job or Work is Not Making Your Happy...But You Are "Just Living With It"
You're in a job you may or may not like
You don't hate it yet...it pays the bills...you've got some friends there...there's some problems (there's always problems...)...but you can "live with it".
Then one day you start asking yourself.."Is that all there is?"
You don't dread going to work...yet
But the doubts are creeping.

Warning Sign #1 When Doubts Creep In
When self doubts come up...you "do the right thing"...and squash them down.
It's part self preservation. It's part "rational thinking". It's part habit...
It's also the first step toward changing your life.

Here Are The First Signs of Discontent...Which Ones Are You Thinking?
You find yourself thinking...
- "Complaining won't get me anywhere"
- 'My jobs not so bad...especially when I compare it to what other people are doing" (I call that "The Classic"...its the Number 1 Delaying Technique there is.
- "I might want to change...but I have no idea where to start...or what I might do"
- "It's not so bad here...maybe we can find some ways to make it better for me?
What's The Difference Between Being Unhappy and Unsatisfied...And Why It Matters
By the way...there's a difference between being "Unhappy" and "Unsatisfied".
There's a lot of talk about Happiness being an inside job...a frame of mind...a "state of being" which basically says "It's not my situation...it's how I think about it"
Like "Living In The Now" or "You Can Be Happy No Matter What"
These are the people who say Circumstances Don't Count.
There's some truth there.
You can control your thoughts...and reactions.
It works. (And I cover that in other areas)
It's a great first step towards Getting The Life You Love.
But there is a trap. Staying "serene" all the time can keep you from changing your life!
Why?
When you are calm all the time...you can lose your motivation and incentive to change.
And that keeps you from adding the meaning and purpose you want out of your life.
By my Definition, Happiness includes doing work you love doing...that contributes to the well being of others...that reduces the suffering of others...that brings your creative and artistic and emotional gifts to life.
So from that standpoint...Happiness does include your circumstances.
Another way of looking at it...You spend the biggest portion of your life doing some kind of work.
(You used to sleep more than you worked...but how many people really get 8 hours a sleep a night anymore!)
If you're doing something you don't like...and you have to fight against all the time...how much a drain is that on you...having to use all that extra energy just to stay moving along....when you could harness that same "resistance power" and change it to "living energy" that supports what you do?
